Riverdale's Restaurant Row Now Has One Owner Behind Almost Every Door

Drive Old Cantrell Road on a Tuesday evening right now and the block tells two stories at once. Outside The Loca Luna, the new fenced patio is full, servers weaving between tables that didn't exist a year ago. A hundred feet down, Fidel & Co's Riverdale storefront has its lights on and a short line for afternoon coffee. The reopening everyone already toasted

The Loca Luna closed on September 8, 2025, for what Remolinos called an extensive renovation. Nine months later, on June 15, 2026, it reopened fully rebuilt, right down to a new facade and a fenced-in front patio that wasn't there before. The restaurant had just turned 30 on that stretch of Old Cantrell Road, and the reopening leaned into that history rather than erasing it. The menu still reads like Loca Luna. The name picked up a small article, now going by The Loca Luna, but the identity held.

That's the version of this story most Little Rock diners already know, because it's the version that got covered the most. Mark Abernathy, who opened the original restaurant almost three decades ago and later built Red Door on the same block, sold both to Remolinos when he retired. The sale closed in 2024. The renovation took most of a year. The reopening got a write-up in the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette and a round of congratulatory posts. Case closed, as far as most people were concerned.

The quiet third location nobody argued about

While Loca Luna was still boarded up, Remolinos opened something new next door. Fidel & Co's third location, at 3515 Old Cantrell Road, soft-opened in late April 2026 selling only pastries and coffee, brought in daily from the company's original Sterling location in the East Village. It fully opened in May, according to Arkansas Times reporting from July on the same company's other moves. Hours started at 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. on weekdays, a little later on weekends.

Nobody wrote a think piece about this one, and that's telling. A new coffee counter doesn't carry the same weight as a 30-year-old bistro or a restaurant with a name people already love. It's the least contested of the three additions precisely because it didn't require anyone to let go of anything. That distinction matters for what comes next, because the fourth property on this block is the opposite case.

The name that isn't coming back

Red Door closed on April 1, 2025. The announcement at the time was specific about what would happen: not a refresh under the same name, but a reopening as an entirely new concept. The original target was early 2026. By March, coverage of the neighborhood described the restaurant as still undergoing a full transformation, with the timeline pushed to mid-2026. By early August, according to a Little Rock Soirée update on the Riverdale corridor, Red Door was still under construction, and a new name had surfaced for the first time: The Landing.

The reporting doesn't spell out whether The Landing is literally what Red Door becomes when the doors finally reopen, or a separate concept being layered onto the same corner. Either reading points to the same outcome. A restaurant that served Southern brunch on that corner for almost two decades, going back to when Abernathy first opened Bene Vita there more than 20 years ago and turned it into Red Door in 2009, is not returning under its own name. The building will keep serving food. The name that regulars used for seventeen years will not be on the sign.

Same address, new math

Laid out this way, the pattern is hard to miss. Two of three projects slipped their original timelines by months. The one that landed roughly on schedule was also the one that didn't require gutting a 30-year-old space or replacing a name people had used for two decades. Renovation and reinvention move at different speeds, and this block is running both at once under a single company.

One calendar, one corridor

For most of its history, this stretch of Old Cantrell Road answered to one person working at a manageable scale. Abernathy opened Loca Luna, and years later added Red Door a few doors down, and ran both as an owner-operator with decades of runway to get each one right. That's a different arrangement than what's happening now, where a single company is simultaneously managing a full restaurant remodel, a from-scratch rebuild with a new identity, and a new retail build-out, all within a few hundred yards of each other.

Remolinos isn't a small operation stretched thin by accident either. The same company runs Sterling Market in the East Village, which stopped serving daily diners in July 2026 and now operates as a private event space only, another sign of a business reallocating its attention across several properties at once. When one operator holds that many moving pieces, a slipped timeline on one address isn't a surprise. It's close to inevitable. The early 2026 target for Red Door was never just about construction. It was about how much one company's calendar could actually hold at the same time.
